Store Message

Thanks everyone for your support of our custom knits.  We look forward to 2024 being a great year here at The Knit Tree.   As Sharon Nani, owner, prepares for retirement, she is training her son, Ken to knit the items in the online store, plus the ones that were removed.  Ken is going to take over The Knit Tree and its equipment so we can continue to offer these unique custom knits to our customers. Ken is not new to machine knitting - he earned his high school and college spending money by filling orders back in the 1990's, and has continued to help in maintaining the equipment.  Ken is creative in his own rights with his "Custom Wood and Land Works" business where he falls the timber, prepares the lumber and creates unique wood items and projects: custom storage sheds, fences, decks ect.  So we may add new catagories to this web site when the time arrives.  SO LOOK FORWARD TO ADDING THE CAMO KNITS BACK INTO THE ONLINE STORE THIS YEAR.

Hupa Yurok Karuk Tribes of N CaliforniaBasketry Designs Are Preserved In These Keep Sake Blankets from Northern California. Darlene Marshall is the artisan for the Hupa, Yurok Karuk Blankets. Darlene is a registered member of the Hupa Tribe.

These basketry marks are geometric designs. Many Tribes use Geometric Designs in their Basketry and Bead work along with Florals. So the same design may be recognized by a different name dependent upon the area. Some of the Indian Nations that use Geometric Designs within their art are: Apache, Aztec, Blackfoot, Cherokee, Choctaw, Chippewa, Comanche, Chumash, Coast Salish, Fox, Hupa, Haida, ÜInca, Karuk, Klamath, Kwakiutl,ÜLakota, Maidu, Mayan, MeWuk, Miwok, Modoc, Navajo, Nez Perce, Nootka, Ojibwa, Paiute, Pit River, Pomo, Seminole, Shoshone, Sioux, Tlingit, Umatilla, Ute, Wailaki, Washo, Wintu, Yakama, Yokut, Yurok. The book "Language of the Robe" by Robert W. Kapoun with Charles J. Lohrmann shows in many ways the importance of the Native American Blanket and the honor in receiving such a gift.

Native American Blankets are all Custom Knit so you can select your own colors and each design is offered in acrylic (Note: we had to remove the option of Merino Wool, the distributor has eliminated a lot of the colors). Some of the designs are offered in a lap size.

If you would like a design in a lap size in a motif that you do not see offered, contact customer service to see if it can be knit. .
